The washing machine drum resists when you try to turn it by hand
Issue
- The washing machine drum resists when you try to turn it by hand
- The washing machine drum is hard to turn when turned by hand, is the appliance damaged?
Applies to
- Washing machines with a PM (Permanent Magnet) motor
Resolution
In washing machines equipped with a PM (Permanent Magnet) motor, when you try to manually rotate the drum, you may notice some resistance, called the resistive torque. This phenomenon is typical for appliances of this type using PM motors.
When the washing machine is powered by electricity, this resistive torque is easily overcome by the driving force generated by the electric power supply.
This phenomenon does not indicate an appliance malfunction.
